Can I host a full reception with just hors d'oeuvres instead of a sit-down meal?
Yes. Heavy hors d’oeuvres receptions are a popular alternative to a traditional dinner, especially for cocktail parties, holiday events, and more casual wedding receptions. We’ll help you select the right number and variety of appetizers to make sure your guests are well-fed throughout the event.
Our most requested wedding appetizers include Chesapeake Bay crab cakes, bacon-wrapped sea scallops, Beef Wellingtons, lumpia, braised shrimp skewers, and the Prosciutto and Fig Vineyard Flatbread. For dip stations, the lump crab dip and creamy spinach and artichoke are always crowd favorites.
It depends on whether you’re serving appetizers as a cocktail hour starter or as the full meal. For a cocktail hour before dinner, we typically recommend three to four selections. For a heavy hors d’oeuvres reception, six to eight selections will keep guests satisfied. We’ll help you calculate the right amounts during the planning process.
We offer a wide selection of both. Vegetarian options include Caprese skewers, honey-glazed fruit skewers, wild mushroom sweet potato flatbread, vegetable-stuffed mushrooms, and creamy spinach and artichoke dip. Many of our appetizers are naturally gluten-free as well, including the crab cakes, scallops, shrimp skewers, and deviled eggs.
